Megan and Matthew recently traveled from out of the area to shoot their engagement session with me. I’m happy to be a part of their wedding, which will be held at Khimaira Farms later this month. It’s been nearly a year since I’ve shot anything at this venue; it’ll be good to be back! Since Megan and Matthew are an athletic, outdoorsy couple, I wanted this shoot to showcase their personalities.
We drove to a location here in the gorgeous Blue Ridge mountains and had an early Saturday morning hike to a waterfall for Scene One. It was very cool and rainy, but that didn’t slow us down. With the rocks slippery from the rain, I was very glad to have a spider holster on this shoot, and, even though I was a little fearful with using my Profoto B1 strobes, they held up really well under the adverse conditions. We had lunch on the mountain, then returned to my Luray studio for a change.
Scene Two was set in a local alleyway (it’s not as weird as it sounds!). I like to have at least three different looks for sessions to really capture the essence of a client. I set up for a formal session in the alley, and the lighting there really made the shot. For the third and final scene, Megan and Matthew got out on the track for a few lifestyle shots. As avid runners, this was a great way to continue to show their energy.
One of the perks that I offer, especially for clients from out of the area, is same day edits. While Megan and Matthew took some time to check on other vendors in the Luray area, including going to Gathering Grounds for a slice of their delicious homemade pie, I sat down in the studio. It was very satisfying to see the images that same day, to continue the excitement and joy that goes along with an engagement session.
